Military & Police Tactical Belts
Tactical belts have become a staple part of the military and police uniform due to their robust build and practical features. Unlike regular belts, the tactical belt is designed to not only hold up your tactical pants but also withstand rough use and carry several pieces of tactical gear. They will generally be made from thick, heavy-duty nylon webbing or leather that’s rigid enough to evenly distribute the weight of your duty gear without it sagging or curling.
When looking for the best tactical belt, keep in mind how you plan to use it so that performs the way you intend it to. Galls carries a wide range of belts that fall into this “tactical” category and will serve a specific purpose. The most common options include the gun belt, duty belt, riggers belt, instructor belt, and battle belt. We also feature tactical belts designed to be worn by women.
Types of Tactical Belts
Gun Belts
The gun belt is one of the most common types of tactical belts that law enforcement officers, military personnel, and EDC users choose. They’re typically made with an internal stiffener or double reinforced leather so that the belt retains its shape and won’t twist, stretch or sag when the firearm is holstered. The main purpose of these tactical gun belts is to ensure that it safely and comfortably secures a firearm to your side.
The Blade-Tech Ultimate Carry Belt is a great combat belt option for everyday carry purposes. It’s designed with a ratcheting system so that you can comfortably adjust your belt range up to 6 inches without unbuckling it. All you have to do is press the easy release lever forward and slide the belt strap open or closed. This ratchet belt also features high-density water-repellent nylon and ultra-strong reinforced polymer teeth that yields a 1,300-pound tensile strength rating.
Tactical Duty Belts
Duty belts are designed to hold a full load of tactical gear, which can range between 15-20 pounds on average. Just like gun belts, the police duty belt is made to be extra rigid, yet comfortable enough to support a holstered firearm, tactical flashlight, police handcuffs, a police baton, and other critical gear without it sagging, twisting, or stretching. On top of that, these police belts can carry gear at almost any point of the belt rather than just one dedicated point.
A cost-effective belt many law enforcement officers turn to is the Galls Molded Nylon Duty Belt. This police belt is made from 100% ballistic nylon that’s both fade- and scratch-resistant, weatherproof, and hand washable. The internal stiffener adds the strength and rigidity needed to support your gear while the hook-and-loop liner interlocks with the Galls Molded Nylon Inner Belt for added stability. This nylon duty belt also features a tri-release buckle to keep it locked in place and prevent release in the event of a struggle.
Riggers Belts
The riggers belt is a non-load bearing option made for rappelling. It’s best suited for rock climbing, fast-roping, or zip-lining rather than walking on patrol. A dedicated ‘V’ or ‘D’ ring anchor point is incorporated into the belt for attaching a carabiner and will hold up during strenuous activity. It typically features triple-reinforced stitching and a heavy-duty belt buckle that can withstand at least 5,000 pounds of breaking strength.
The BlackHawk CQB/Riggers Belt is constructed to military specifications and built with parachute-grade buckles and adapters for unparalleled strength and support. This military belt is designed to fit all standard-issue BDUs and boasts a 7,000-pound tensile rating while a hook & loop secures the running end. This web belt has also been NTOA tested and approved.
Trainer/Instructor Belts
The instructor belt is primarily used for “instructing” others during high-angle (climbing) training situations. Just like the riggers belt, it has several rows of reinforced stitching and a heavy-duty belt buckle that can stand up to 5,000 pounds of tensile strength to withstand a fall. While this belt can be used for emergency rappelling with the proper training, it would be unsafe to use as a replacement for the riggers belt or rappelling harness.
Made durable and functional, the 5.11 Tactical 1.5” Trainer Belt comes fortified with heavy-duty, five-row stitching for firm support. This 5.11 Tactical belt is made from ultra-strong nylon mesh and a low-profile, stainless steel buckle that boasts a 6,000-pound rating. It’s made fade- and rip-resistant and has a slanted working end for ease of use. This nylon belt also conveniently converts into a secure tie-down, secondary strap, or emergency harness.
Battle Belts
Tactical operators commonly use the battle belt as a load-bearing device for their critical gear. It’s the perfect alternative to a plate carrier or tactical backpack and typically comes padded, lined with MOLLE webbing, and reinforced with stiffeners. They offer more support than a regular tactical belt and can either be worn by themselves or tied in with tactical suspenders to keep the weight off your hips.
The Condor Outdoor Battle Belt is designed to work as a light and easy load-out. This military tactical belt features extra real estate for modular attachments and can be used in conjunction with Condor’s 215-H-Harness. This MOLLE belt is also padded with a non-slip lining, has four D-rings for a harness, and side panels with a hook and loop closure for easy inner belt threading. This war belt must be used with a 1.5” - 2” web belt (not included).
